About Me!

Connecting with people is a passion of mine that I enjoy on not just a personal level but on a professional one as well. As a psychology major with a minor in religious studies and a certificate in the study of spirituality, it is important to me that I work towards a career that empowers personal fulfilment and helps me leave a legacy of meaning in our society. Thus, I strive to help those who struggle with their mental health. Although I believe we have increased the awareness of and made scientific advancements in recent years, I understand that mental health concerns continue to be stigmatized. Therefore, as an entity, mental health has not societally received the level of acknowledgement it should and as a result, is not being researched as proficient as possible. While in India, I will be able to kickstart my research interests by exploring one aspect of people that makes them unlike any other: their personal religious and spiritual beliefs and the way it impacts their mental health. With the environment and culture in India being entirely different from America, I’m intrigued to learn.

I know that to attend a clinical psychology doctoral program like I intend to, once I graduate with my bachelor’s degree, I must acquire sufficient research experience. However, it is important to me that I pursue research opportunities that contribute to my personal standards and hope to make a holistic impact on society, such as the Global Health Study Abroad program. While studying in India, I hope to gain both clinical and research experience by researching Western mental health issues in relation to religion and spirituality which will conclude the remaining credits I need to acquire my study of spirituality certificate, as well as my bachelor’s degree. With the opportunity to learn further about my research project topics, I hope to carry that vigor into the research I plan to continue conducting regarding religion, spirituality, and mental health once I graduate with my PhD.
